Jim Hudson Cadillac, Columbia South Carolina’s exclusive authorized Cadillac dealer, is pleased to announce new safety features on the 2012 Cadillac SRX luxury crossover SUV.  The Cadillac SRX has long featured StabiliTrak electronic stability control, which has proven to help prevent crashes by helping to keep the car under control during emergency maneuvers. The 2012 Cadillac SRX wrings a new benefit from the system –removing water from brake components during wet highway driving conditions.

Drivers can feel more in control in soggy conditions because Auto Dry Brakes can help to improve overall brake effectiveness during rainy conditions on the highway.  This is very important for the safety of Columbia’s drivers, as the U.S. Department of Transportation says 620,000 crashes on the nation’s roadways in 2009 – one in 10 – occurred in the rain.

“The important thing is to assure the brakes are as dry as possible before the driver applies the brake pedal,” said Randy Leek, a Cadillac brake development engineer. “We designed this feature to ensure that the brakes provide optimal braking performance while driving in inclement weather.”

Auto Dry Brakes work in a very specific set of operating conditions on the 2012 Cadillac SRX.  Auto Dry Brakes start when the SRX RainSense automatic windshield wiper system detects rain, or when the standard windshield wipers are operating, and the SRX has been traveling over 20 mph continuously for more than four miles without using the cruise control system. StabiliTrak generates a slight amount of brake pressure automatically, which pulses pressure to the vehicle’s brake calipers at intervals to wipe water from the brake rotors while the car is moving.  With less water on the brake rotors, the driver will receive a more assured stopping feel and better brake effectiveness when the brakes are applied.

Auto Dry Brakes are designed to apply pressure to all four of the SRX’s disc brakes at roughly six kilometer (or 3.75 mile) intervals, while the accelerator is applied. The system works seamlessly with StabiliTrak, anti-lock brakes and traction control without the driver knowing anything is happening, providing the effortless luxury Cadillac is known the world over for providing.

The new compact Cadillac codenamed ATS will bring rear-wheel drive performance in a compact package to go against the BMW 3-Series.

Jim Hudson Cadillac, Columbia South Carolina’s exclusive Cadillac dealer, is proud to announce the coming arrival of a new Cadillac sedan, codenamed ATS.  This new, smaller Cadillac slots in below the Car and Driver 10Best-winning CTS, which will be bracketed on the other side by the new Cadillac XTS in Columbia SC slated to arrive that spring.

The 2013 Cadillac ATS is a true rear-wheel drive luxury sports car, available in sedan form where it will go against the finest from Germany including the BMW 3-series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Audi A4.  ”The car we’ve codenamed ATS starts a new chapter for Cadillac in the luxury market’s C-segment. We’re confident it will attract luxury car buyers who previously would not have considered Cadillac,” said GM North America president Mark Reuss.  ATS will ride on a new platform, internally referred to as Alpha and currently slated to be exclusive to Cadillac.  While Cadillac did not discuss engines intended to go in the ATS, GM Inside News expects it to receive four-cylinder power in both naturally-aspirated and turbocharged form.

Production of this sedan is slated to happen at the Lansing Grand River plant, itself no stranger to luxury performance cars as it is the manufacturing home of the much-lauded Cadillac CTS for sale in Columbia SC.  The Cadillac CTS is available in sedan, coupe, and sport wagon body styles, riding on the larger Sigma platform.  An investment of $190 million is allowing the plant to undergo upgrades to permit both cars to be produced together, in addition to adding or retaining 600 jobs.

Final Cadillac DTS Going to Bulgari Collection

Last week saw the end of production for the Cadillac DTS full-size luxury sedan, which has sat atop Cadillac’s luxury sedan lineup since its 2006 introduction with its predecessor, the DeVille, occupying the spot for decades before.  The final DTS off the line at Cadillac’s Detroit-Hamtramck plant is going to the collection of Nicola Bulgari, the vice chairman of the Bulgari luxury goods company.

Bulgari is an avid Cadillac collector, already owning sixteen other cars from Cadillac and LaSalle, Cadillac’s companion brand from 1927 to 1940.  The collection is an interesting blend of classic and modern Cadillacs, including a 1947 and 1949 Model 7533 Limousine that was part of the Pope’s motorcade, a 2009 Cadillac XLR-V with a custom Bulgari speedometer, a 1970 Coupe DeVille, and a 2010 Cadillac CTS Wagon.

Bulgari developed his passion for automobiles, particularly American automobiles, as a child growing up in post-World War II Italy. He remembers seeing U.S. soldiers and dignitaries driving all makes and models of American automobiles through the streets of Rome. His collection includes every GM model made in 1941, the year he was born.

“It’s something that goes back a long time,” Bulgari said. “It started when I was 5 or 6 years old. It cultivated an incredible passion that has grown and gotten more sophisticated as I’ve come to understand the history better.”

When he was 25, Bulgari bought his first Cadillac – a 1938 Cadillac V-16 Town Car. With its smooth, powerful engine, the Cadillac V-16 is considered by most experts as one of the finest automobiles of all time. Bulgari has sold his V-16 but said he would add another to his collection if he found the right one.

“It was quite an experience to drive that car because the quality was second to none,” Bulgari said. “The suspension design, the power, the engine… Everything was built with extraordinary quality.”

Jim Hudson Cadillac, the exclusive Cadillac dealer in Columbia, South Carolina, celebrates the news that the Cadillac CTS-V has been added to Car and Driver magazine’s prestigious 10Best Cars list for the fourth consecutive year.  A member of the list since its second generation debuted in 2008, the Cadillac CTS-V is the only American luxury car to make the 2011 10Best list.

This year, the editors of Car and Driver chose to award the high-performance, 556-horsepower CTS-V line in lieu of the standard CTS range.  The editors explained “In forsaking the mainstream CTSs, we are saying yes to psychedelic power, yes to organ-shifting g-forces, yes to the great, mind-expanding duality of Cadillacs that make the 0-to-60 sprint about as fast as a Ferrari 599…. These are hard-core performance cars, but they are also Cadillacs, with all of the seamlessness, refinement, and content that implies.”

The CTS-V line features a supercharged 6.2L V-8 delivering 556 horsepower (415 kW) and 551 lb.-ft of torque (747 Nm). Power is delivered to the rear wheels through either a standard six-speed manual or available six-speed automatic transmission. Other high-performance features on the CTS-V family include standard Brembo performance brakes, Magnetic Ride Control, and 19-inch forged-aluminum wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires.

Introduced as a 2010 model, the CTS-V Sport Sedan available in South Carolina is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 miles per hour, and lapped the notorious Nurburgring racetrack in Germany in 7:59.32 minutes. The CTS-V Coupe, which went on sale this summer, pairs that performance with classic hardtop styling defined by the lack of a traditional B-pillar, the steeply raked windshield angle, and the long, nearly horizontal backglass. The Coupe also features details normally reserved for concepts, such as the rear spoiler integrated into the center high-mounted stop lamp, hidden touch pads to open the doors instead of standard door handles, and the center-outlet exhaust with twin tips that pass through the rear fascia.  The CTS-V Wagon, which is now available for sale, pairs all the performance of the CTS-V with accommodations for up to 58 cubic feet of cargo.

As you can see, the new wheel adds an extra measure of flair to the CTS-V’s well-received look. The new wheel will enter into production for all three members of the V-Series–CTS Coupe, Sedan, and Sport Wagon–in late December, depending on final production testing. The wheel is available with select exterior colors, including Radiant Silver, Black Raven, White Diamond, and Thunder Gray; it is not available for Crystal Red or Evolution Green models. MSRP for the new wheel and caliper combination is $800, a small price to pay for some extra visual punch on the world’s fastest production sedan.
